IN LOVING MEMORY OF MARKO GRILC - GRILO
Marko Grilc was a professional snowboarder, innovator, mentor and dedicated family man.
He was born on July 7, 1983, and his snowboarding career took off at the age of 14 with his first sponsorship deal. He was one of the top ranked snowboarders of all time with a 26 year long career with brands such as Burton Snowboards’, GoPro, BMW, Absolut Park, Planet Sports, RedBull and others. A few of his achievements include his competitive debut in 2002 during the FIS Junior World Championships in Finland, followed by record nine podiums in the next 11 years, which included events like the 2004 European Cup in Croatia, the World Cup in London in 2010 and his most recognisable Air and style win in 2010. He made his last competitive appearance during the 2013 World Cup at Copper Mountain, Colorado.
His massively popular video parts begun in 2005 when he appeared in David Benedek’s 91 Words For Snow movie. He went on to contribute to the snowboarding film industry with his own web series called The Grilosodes which further cemented his character as an amazing human being who always knew how to have a good time, along with his many talents and fun personality.
Constantly reinventing himself, Grilo was a pioneer, transitioning from traditional career paths to vlog series and social content well before it was the norm. With the arrival of his firstborn Maxx, and later his daughter Emma, Grilo shifted his career to center around family. He and his wife Nina, worked together to show families around the world how to raise their children standing sideways.
